Justin brought home an article in the WSJ about a study in Brazil following 15 newly diagnosed type-1 diabetics undergoing stem cell therapy and how they were insulin-independent. I think this is a related article as well.
This was a timely news article because earlier that day, I had eaten 3 kripsy kremes and a at least 4 doughnut holes. I wish it were still the days where the main concern was just getting fat. Instead, now I feel guilty about contributing to my own death and ill-being. I was picking up $20 worth of doughnuts for a co-worker's farewell get-together and was feeling a bit low. I forgot my meter at my desk at work so I figured I should just have 1 doughnut to be on the safe side. It's about 2 carbs, so not terrible. I would like to blame my ravenous appetite for the other doughnuts on my low blood spell because that's how I feel. On the few occasions where I've woken up in the night feeling low, I want to consume everything in my refridgerator. But these are all excuses. Excuses excuses excuses. I know that my cholesterol wasn't great the last time I had it done. Why is it so hard to eat better? The simple decisions not to get the cookies, put whip cream in my hot chocolate, butter on bread, choose the red meat...
And I need to exercise more. When I was in high school, before our senior spring break trip, I did 100 sit ups (not good form in retrospect) every night in the bathroom before I took a shower. Where is that motivation now? I heard somewhere on the radio or TV that 1 hour of vigorous exercises extends your life expectancy by 2 hours. That should be my motivation!

I have read many articles on Stem Cell Therapy, currently it maybe somehow obstructed in US by religious or moral reasons, but it has been a very popular scientific research topic worldwide ever since the UK Dolly sheep, even my TW dentist Lo TaiHwa has started Stem Cell related dental treatment. I do believe stem cell will cure many illness fundamentally in the coming 10 years; as you may remember 1 GB hard disk was unheard of in the 80's and now it's even too small for any flash card.
